NOVUM december 2012         29 11 2012

The Munich publisher Novum, started in 1924 under the name Gebrauchsgraphik. Already during the first decades of its existence the magazine developed into a seminal prototype for latter-day graphic design magazines such as Graphis (USA), Communication Arts (USA) or Idea (JPN). And still maintains a position as one of the few design magazines graphic designers and students throughout the world eagerly turn to for inspiration. Thanks Bettina and Christine for the great article about the studio in the Novum December issue.

New Project Added - Secret Postcards         26 11 2012

Real beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, as the saying goes. If you're not scared of art and also willing to play a little guessing game there might be a chance that your 55 euro purchase at the Secret Postcard exhibition was made by a famous artist. An extra bonus. But you only will know for sure at the last day of the exhibition. When all the names will be revealed next to the 573 anonymously presented postcard sized (10 x 15 cm) artworks.  See about the Secret Postcard show here.

LOGOTYPE         23 10 2012

After his groundbreaking publication LOGO (which featured the K Karl Lagerfeld pixelportrait and Conflict logo) Michael Evamy’s long awaited, new standard LOGOTYPE is the definitive modern collection of logotypes, monograms and other text-based corporate marks. Examples are drawn from Western Europe, North America,  Australia, South Africa, the Far East, Israel, Iran, South America and Eastern Europe. A great honour to see the Atelier LaDurance, Friends Of The Simon Stevin Institute, Taskers and 14 OZ. logotypes being selected to be part of this imperative compendium.    See about the selected and other logotypes here.

14 OZ. The Mark of Excellence         11 10 2012

When my dear friend Karl Heinz Müller asked me in 1999 to think about a name for his store I advised him to use ‘fourteen ounce’ - the favorite denim cloth weight preferred by the true jeans afficionado. And I presented a simple design in the original quality writing. The store used to be located in Cologne and re-opened its doors in 2008 in Berlin, Mitte. Was awarded for the coolest dressing room in Berlin and the best store in Europe. While the logo made it into various international logo books. All eyes are on Berlin as a new 14 oz. will open the 25th. at Haus Cumberland, Kurfürstendamm. A magic place. Whenever you’re in Berlin pay a visit, you’ll be amazed.
