A Walk Through The Branding Exhibition         01 01 2014

 

Short documentary by Ben & Akkie Brack for the art based TV program K.i.M (dutch spoken without subtitles). Boy Bastiaens tells about his father who was trained as a signpainter as one of his major influences. The impact of old advertisements drawn in the era of optimism. The ‘K logo’ table that he designed for Karl Lagerfeld. Virtual shoes and many other collaborative Stormhand projects made with visual designer Albert Kiefer. The stunning fashion images shot by architectural photographer Kim Zwarts. And the role of logo’s as visual shortcuts, pointing to a particular brand perception one has in mind.

Whenever you're planning to visit Maastricht at the southern part of the Netherlands in the next couple of months make sure not to miss 'Branding'. It's a very personal exhibition which is about the joy of making things, closer looks from different angles, the ability to anticipate and even spark off trends. Featuring identity projects and others by Dutch graphic designer/ art director Boy Bastiaens and work made over the years with friends. Like visual designer Albert Kiefer with whom Bastiaens joins forces and collaborates under the name StormHand since 1993. And Kim Zwarts who has received international recognition as photographer on many architecture books.

Hong Kong based publisher Artpower has produced very nicely executed books in the fields of design, architecture, branding, photography etc. Their latest publication Logo Talks 2 is a 360 page hardback lexicon which is all about the graphic mark that is commonly used by commercial enterprises, organisations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition. Made by designers from all over the world; based upon different ideas, approaches and styles of work. Swell to be featured with a selection of Victorian lettering style marks, like the Grivec Bros. Blog logo, Denim Demon logo and One Acre Shirting Club logo amongst others.

Fashion Exposed         19 08 2013

 

The book Fashion Exposed – Graphics, Promotion & Advertising celebrates the successful experience of fashion brands that manage to stand out from a fierce competition through taste, uniquenes and personality. And focusses on graphics that helped these brands to achieve success. Lovely to find a nice selection of Atelier LaDurance packaging and displays in the book: highlighting a remarkable red thread of inventive, lo-tec and inexpensive material packaging designs that tied the brand identity together. Designed some time ago for promoting and providing visual support to the exceptional denim products that were manufactured in the Provençe, Southern France.
