In may 1993 Boy Bastiaens and Albert Kiefer joined forces for the very first time in an illustration assignment for Blad, the Dutch bimonthly magazine about visual culture. The -3xR- stage trick with letters performed by a conjoined magicians twin became the kick-off for a repertoire of images in a wide variety of styles. As well as the start of a great friendship: an extraordinary time and lots of fun. Collaborating on a project means mainly teaming up directly from out their own studio’s through e-mail, phone and regular post, as the result of a 80 km distance between the two design practises. Which works pretty well as they're doing so now for 20 years.
